As its annotation states, this photograph shows a man collection ‘Toddy’, a raw ingredient harvested to make a local type of palm wine.
Always fermented, but available in alcoholic or non-alcoholic form, Toddy has been a traditional drink in South Asia for centuries.
A quick web search tells us the average height of Indian men is 5’ 5”, which allows us to guestimate the height of this tree to be upwards of fifty feet; an impressive example of the lengths to which we humans sometimes go to harvest our crops.
